YouTubeGet can help you download and convert Internet video. The application has a very simple interface and it’s unlikely that anyone can have any difficulty to use it. Fortunately, the tool supports different ways by which you can download video from YouTube. Firstly, there’s a built-in browser that opens YouTube main page and allows searching from there. A single click on a button will start downloading the selected clip automatically. Yet, I regret to say that this didn’t work on my computer as it should have, so I didn’t get to see the browser’s window. Secondly, the application can monitor the clipboard to detect when a valid YouTube URL is copied. Thirdly, there’s a transparent icon on your screen to which you can drag the video address. Finally, it’s also possible to simply type or paste the desired hyperlink using the Add button.
After the files have been downloaded, the program can convert them automatically to other formats, mostly those that are compatible with such portable devices as iPods, mobile phones, and PSPs. Besides, there’s the possibility of extracting audio from the video. However, I can’t understand why I’m given no choice but to convert the files and there’s no way to tell the application to leave them as they are. There’s also a built-in converter, which, sadly, doesn’t support any format other FLV.
In general, I would say that YouTubeGet is light years behind many other similar applications. Actually, it seems that it hasn’t been updated for some time so it’s no longer adapted to the present circumstances. For some years now, YouTube has been providing direct links to download videos in multiple formats without the necessity of stripping their actual URL. What’s worse, the program doesn’t support other popular video-sharing sites. Perhaps you should probably keep looking elsewhere.
